Tilt-Shift Calculator — Scheimpflug Plane of Focus

Calculate the Scheimpflug plane of focus angle, hinge distance and sharp zone for tilted lenses.

Lens tilt in degrees

Distance to focus plane centre

How We Calculate This

Scheimpflug Principle

When the lens is tilted, the sensor plane, lens plane and plane of sharp focus must all intersect along a common line.

Hinge Distance

J = focal length / sin(tilt angle)

The hinge distance determines how the focus plane tilts relative to the camera. Smaller hinge distance (more tilt) creates a steeper focus plane angle.
