How We Calculate This
The package price is built from itemised costs plus a markup:
Shoot cost = shooting hours × hourly rate
Edit cost = editing hours × hourly rate × edit-rate multiplier
Total cost = shoot + edit + print credits + travel + admin buffer
Package price = round up (total cost × markup)
The markup (typically 1.2-1.5x) accounts for profit margin, risk, and business overhead not captured in direct costs. Under Advanced options you can bill editing at a different rate (edit-rate multiplier, default 1.0), add a fixed admin buffer to the total cost (default £0), and set the round-up increment (default nearest £5). With the defaults, edit cost = editing hours × hourly rate and total cost = shoot + edit + print credits + travel.
Frequently Asked Questions
Offer 2-3 tiers (e.g. Bronze, Silver, Gold). Each tier should increase in shooting time, delivered images and extras. Make the middle tier the best value — most clients choose the middle option. Include at least one premium add-on (prints, album, extra hours).
Typical inclusions: shooting hours, number of edited and delivered digital images, an online gallery, print credits or products, travel within a radius, and a minimum turnaround time. Additional charges might apply for extra hours, rush delivery, or additional locations.
A common guideline is 30-50 edited images per hour of shooting for event and portrait work. Wedding photographers typically deliver 50-100 images per hour. The key is quality over quantity — every delivered image should be fully edited and portfolio-worthy.
Including print credits encourages clients to purchase physical products and adds perceived value to the package. Even a modest £50-£100 print credit gets clients into your print ordering system, where they often spend more.
